Hello everyone!
This Week's Playlist - Season 2, Episode 47.
More than a year after the first edition, I'm running another cover episode with 5 songs.
I really enjoy how the bands I'm listening to are reappropriating classics. So here are some of my recent favourites. And if you think I need to include some more, let me know.
I hope you enjoy this selection and see you next weekend.
Also, I'm going for a third season of this newsletter for 2024, and I'm interested in hearing your feedback or comments. Hit reply to this email.
TL;DR: I'm running a musical newsletter with a new guest sharing 5 songs each week.
There is a YouTube link for each of the songs on the cover, and here are the playlists for each streaming platform:
1. Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band - PIMP
A steel band cover of the 00s hip-hop classic and a recurring theme of a recent (and excellent) movie inspired me for this playlist.
2. Anthony Vincent - Spit It Out
A hip-hop/videogame soundtrack rendition of Slipknot's frantic song.
I'm always impressed when Slipknot songs are rendered in a non-metal way; it makes their wide range of influence pop even more.
3. Cake - War Pigs
The Californian 90s alternative rock for Black Sabbath’s classic with a really surfy vibe :-)
4. Sinead O’Connor - All Apologies
I had to add a cover from Nirvana to the playlist. It took me until today to discover this gem from the late great Irish singer.
5. Metallica - Loverman
A classic from Metallica's covers album "Garage Inc." the Nick Cave classic, with this memorable spoken words middle bridge.
Hats down to Metallica, always moving out of their comfort zone for their choice of covers.
Until the next time, Godspeed!
Thomas
