This Week's Playlist #86 - The Back to Work edition
5 songs for my back-to-work/job-hunting playlist
Hello everyone!
This Week's Playlist - Season 2, Episode 34.
I hope everyone (in the Northern Hemisphere) is having a nice end of the summer.
Here in the UK, we are enjoying a few days of relative sunshine and warmth for the end of August :-) It is also a 3 days long bank holiday weekend, the last one before the back-to-school time in early September. I'm also looking for jobs now. This is definitely the right mood.
Enjoy, and see you next week.
TL;DR: I'm running a musical newsletter with a new guest sharing 5 songs each week.
There is a YouTube link for each of the songs on the cover, and here are the playlists for each streaming platform:
Tidal (coming soon)
Deezer (coming soon)
1. Sleaford Mods - Jobseeker
Sleaford Mods is an English post-punk duo (one MC and one hyperactive DJ) known for their abrasive sound and angry rants about modern life, the working class and austerity in England.
2. Rage Against The Machine - The Ghost of Tom Joad
RATM's cover of Bruce Springsteen's 90s song is about a tale of poverty and despair in modern America.
3. Woodkid - Guns for Hire
I should have paid more attention to Woodkid (neither during the buzz of his first album in 2013 nor after that). I discovered this song he wrote for Arcane's Netflix series, which made me realise I should dig into Woodkid's pop/neofolk work.
4. Soulwax - Here Come the Men in Suits
Soulwax is probably one of the most exciting electronic music bands of the last 15 years. It's centred around the 2 Dewaele brothers with an everchanging lineup across the album.
This track is from their 2017 album, recorded with 3 drummers in one take of 48 minutes.
5. The Offspring - Why Don’t You Get A Job
A classic to finish this week’s playlist with a classic from the 90s punk rockers Americana album.
Until the next time, Godspeed!
Thomas
