This Week's Playlist #84 - The Summer edition feat. Gilles S
My little brother shares 5 songs from his summer rotation.
Hello everyone!
This Week's Playlist - Season 2, episode 32.
Let's return to a lighter selection after last week's heavier topic. My brother is back in the newsletter, sharing 5 songs from his summer rotation.
Enjoy, and see you next week.
TL;DR: I'm running a musical newsletter with a new guest sharing 5 songs each week.
There is a YouTube link for each of the songs on the cover, and here are the playlists for each streaming platform:
Tidal (coming soon)
Deezer (coming soon)
1. sleepy.ab – spinal code
Described to me as the "Japanese Radiohead", they've actually got quite an extensive discography, plenty to dig!
2. Ó do Forró - Me Chamo Forró
A really cool blend of traditional Brazilian rhythms and modern sounds!
3. CHRONES – Todi
I was initially going to have Wassulu Don by Oumou Sangare, but Mathieu already described her in his Malian edition, so I went with a slightly older discovery: CHRONES. I discovered them live in Paris in a very tiny venue... It was loud! I was totally mesmerized (and a bit shocked) by how their seemingly peaceful, very traditional jazz-looking 4-piece (sax, double bass, guitar, drums) band produced such a modern and violent sound!
4. Squatt Palace – L’essentiel I
I went to a very, very small music festival in Sarthe (~2h SW of Paris), and this was probably my favourite act of the whole weekend!
I found his lyrics quite refreshing, but he was especially good in his interactions with the crowd and his general stage energy! And after chatting with him later in the night, he also turned out to be a hilarious guy! :-)
5. Gallowstreet - Phoenix
The Dutch brass band just released this new instrumental. As always, with them, they are super powerful; this one almost sounds like drum and bass but with a full brass band!
Until the next time, Godspeed!
Thomas
