This Week's Playlist #80 - Guest feature: David G
Another 5 songs rotation from a (very) long time friend.
Hello everyone!
This Week's Playlist - Season 2, episode 28.
I leave you with David§, an old friend from Paris, now based in NY in charge of the weekly playlist.
Enjoy, and see you next week.
TL;DR: I'm running a musical newsletter with a new guest sharing 5 songs each week.
There is a YouTube link for each of the songs on the cover, and here are the playlists for each streaming platform:
Tidal (coming soon)
Deezer (coming soon)
Guest of the week: David G
Hi everyone, I'm Giggy, or Gig' (how Thomas likes to call me).
I am a French/Sicilian scientist who lives in the peaceful neighborhood of Sunnyside in Queens/New York City.
"Either you don't have any Lebanese friends or you have over 50!" Do you know this joke? It isn't far from reality and what happened to me when Thomas & the fun "Lebanese Crew" adopted me. That was 20 years ago and, truly, a golden age for us in Paris. Thomas and I quickly bonded and shared our interest in soccer, West African culture, NBA, charcuterie, and, of course, all kinds of music — Rock, American Hip Hop, or electronic.
Since then, Thomas and I are music mates! I remember a glorious New Year's Eve, just the two of us, in Brooklyn at Saint Vitus for a gothic/metal night. Thomas and I also became neighbors in London and, inevitably, we have been to a long list of memorable gigs together. It reminds me of a show by Keiji Haino, the pope of the Japanese noise/experimental scene. It was extremely painful — Keiji loudly barked the entire time. We found the extreme limit to Thomas' phlegmatic and open-minded attitude...barking...not bad, Thomas.
So yes, I love music, especially live or on expensive sound systems. I mostly listen to experimental music and free jazz these days, I read the Wire magazine (not the TV show, not Wired either but the magazine from London Wire), I tune into NTS Radio, also in London, and I travel to the Big Ears festival in Knoxville, Tennessee every year.
I picked 5 songs from my heroes/imaginary friends/soul mates. I love everything about these guys. Sorry, that's not the best selection for your next summer warm-up party.
1. Scott Walker - Two Ragged Soldiers
2. Robert Wyatt - P.L.A.
3. Tim Buckley - Dream Letter
4. David Sylvain - Orpheus
5. Curtis Mayfield - Stare and Stare
Until the next time, Godspeed!
Thomas
