Hello everyone!

Transe Mali with Mathpromo
With Tinariwen's new album around the corner, I was reflecting on the famous album "Mali Music" that I tirelessly listened to tirelessly.
As a result, I decided to pick 5 songs with a topic about Mali. And a particular focus on those groups able to bring us to a trance state in less than 4 minutes, thanks to their rhythmic section, keyboards, guitars, or simply through their voices!
Here are a few other trance-inducing groups from somewhere else in Africa to discover: BCUC, Mbongwana Star, Kutu, Jupiter Okwess, and Tshegue...
1. Mali Music - Spoons
I started my journey into Malian music with this album by Damon Albarn. Damon, the leader of Blur, always searching for new adventure and sounds, answered the call of the NGO Oxfam and embarked on an album with musicians from Mali, led by Toumani Diabate.
The encounter of the kora and pop, a long time before M... I could have chosen other tracks like the incandescent "Makelekele" or the dreamy "Sunset Coming On."
2. Electro Bamako - Demebaga Express
A project by Marc Minelli, featuring Mamani Keita at its origin. A psychedelic electro-rock trance discovered at the Only French / RDV Francosonik Festival in 2015, exceptional musicians, a power trio, blazing guitars, and mesmerizing ngonis...
There's not much on YouTube, but I recommend their self-titled album available on all digital platforms.
3. Songhoy Blues - Badala
Captivating guitars, and raw rock, you almost feel like you're hearing the feverish punk of the early Arctic Monkeys with a Saharan Bambara twist.
4. Tamikrest - Djanegh Etoumast
This is engaged Tuareg blues rock. These rebels and resistance fighters from the conflicts in northern Mali blend traditional rhythms, guitars, and percussion. Struggles and hope in the heart of the desert for this group that is too often, and wrongly, compared to the famous Tinariwen.
5. Oumou Sangaré - Yere Faga
The diva Oumou Sangaré with this track featuring the late Tony Allen and his legendary drumming.
A song about surpassing oneself, never giving up, and facing problems with strength... beautifully depicted in the music video.
Until the next time, Godspeed!
Thomas
