This Week's Playlist #72 - Guest feature: Ali R
Ali picks up a good mix of heavy and loud guitars.
Hello everyone!
This Week's Playlist - Season 2, episode 19.
Our rotation this week is brought by Ali, living in the Bay area. A fine selection of loud and heavy tracks for this week, with some lighter passages.
Enjoy, and see you next week.
TL;DR: I'm running a musical newsletter with a new guest sharing 5 songs each week.
There is a YouTube link for each of the songs on the cover, and here are the playlists for each streaming platform:

Guest of the week: Ali R
Hi, I'm Ali, a music/art lover from the Bay Area!
I was first captivated by the magic of music when I was 11 and listened to Erik Satie's Gymnopédie No. 1. (my mom used to listen to a lot of classical music around the house).
Then my whole world changed, I fell in love with music and art, and that love is still very much alive in me. I listen to almost all genres of music but am more gravitating towards heavier/darker music with ambient influences.
Here is my list of 5 songs. Hope you enjoy it!
1. Emma Ruth Rundle & Thou - The Valley
This song is from one of my favorite albums by two of my favorite artists! If you like ambient heavy music with some folk touches here and there, you'll enjoy this album (May Our Chambers Be Full).
2. Amenra - A Solitary Reign
Amenra is my favorite post-metal band. Their music is very dark and beautiful. Check out some of their live performances; it's amazing, like this one.
3. Chelsea Wolfe - Vex
This is from the album "Hiss Spun". Also, check the live version on KEXP. This album is a great combination of ambient music and some heavy dark moments. It is also recorded/produced in God City Studio, owned by Converge's Kurt Ballou, making every record sound amazing!
4. Absent in Body - In Spirit In Spite
Absent in Body is a post-metal collaboration between Scott Kelly (Neurosis), Mathieu Vandekerckhove and Colin H Van Eeckhout (Amenra), and Iggor Cavalera (Sepultura). This is a very interesting album. It has some very groovy heavy riffs blended with the ambient post-metal sound that is the signature of Neurosis and Amenra.
5. Russian Circles - Kohokia
Russian Circles is one of my favorite instrumental bands ever, and Blood Year is probably my favorite album of theirs.
Until the next time, Godspeed!
Thomas
