Hello everyone!
This Week's Playlist - Season 2, episode 18.
No guest for today.
Instead, I thought I'd celebrate a formal ceremony that marks the beginning of a new monarch in the country I'm currently with an old 2022-style topical newsletter :-)
See you next week.
TL;DR: I'm running a musical newsletter with a new guest sharing 5 songs each week.
There is a YouTube link for each of the songs on the cover, and here are the playlists for each streaming platform:
Tidal (coming soon)
Deezer (coming soon)
Metallica - King Nothing
Here is a classic to start with: the heavy metal monsters and one of their most controversial albums (Load), moving away from thrash metal to their massive alternative sound.
As a teenager who grew up listening to grunge and alternative in the 90s, I like Load. Here is my favourite track of the album, with an appropriate title.
King Dude - Forty Fives Say Six Six Six
King Dude is the stage name of the American musician TJ Cowgill. He is known for his unique blend of folk, country, and dark rock music, which often explores themes of death, religion, and the occult spirits.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Gamma Knife
This Australian psychedelic rock band is known for their prolific output (they have released 23 albums, according to Wikipedia). The band's music style is characterized by its eclectic and experimental nature, incorporating psychedelic rock, garage rock, progressive rock and jazzy elements.
This track is from their 2016 album "Nonagon Infinity", a looping concept album that seamlessly transitions from one song to the next.
Howard Shore - Twilight and Shadow
One of the main tracks from the soundtrack of the third movie of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, “The Return of the King”.
No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom
The closing and underrated track of a classic album to finish this week's playlist: the California-based ska/punk band No Doubt and their Tragic Kingdom album, which put them on the radars of commercial success.
This song is my favourite of the album, with the haunting / Disney vibe.
Until the next time, Godspeed!
Thomas
