Hello everyone!
This Week’s Playlist - Season 2, episode 6.
Another weekly playlist from a fellow Londoner friend. And I had to pick 5 great Syrian / Turkish musicians after this week’s devastating earthquake. It’s incredibly heartbreaking, to say the least. So stay tuned after Tanya's picks.
TL;DR: I'm running a musical newsletter with a new guest sharing 5 songs each week.
There is a YouTube link for each of the songs on the cover, and here are the playlists for each streaming platform:

Guest of the week: Tanya D
Hello all! I met Thomas through our love of metal, at a gig around 4/ 5 years ago. Over the years, we’ve been to many gigs together and shared our love of music in general.
I’ve been a psychotherapist for over a decade, so metal, (and music in general) has always been something I viewed as a cathartic, external outlet of all the different emotional states within ourselves, so hugely important for me! I’m also a wannabe belly dancer (wannabe is the key word here), so of course I had to put something in this list that would inspire that aspect of my life!
I’ve used five questions to pick five songs, and they’re all quite different in their tone. My theme is; how can music represent the different parts of ourselves?
I feel honoured Thomas asked me to take part in his weekly playlist, so I hope you can find something you like!
1. Pick your favourite song right now
Blut Aus Nord - Tales Of The Old Dreamer
Blut Aus Nord are just one of those bands, I never get tired of. They are a French Black metal band, that don’t have the typical black metal sound. As I began my journey in metal, black metal was something I worked my way up to, (I know not for everyone!). Blut Aus Nord are a band I discovered only a few years ago and when I first heard this song of their new album, I couldn’t think of anything other than it being “hauntingly beautiful”.
2. Pick a song you listened a lot during your teenager years?
Pantera - Cemetary Gates
Pantera is one of those bands that completed my “transformation to a metal head”. This was one of those songs that I would listen to on repeat. Phil Anselmo’s voice is incredible on this song. The echo of the vocals and Dime’s guitar was something that completely floored me the first time I heard it. I hope that anyone can appreciate this song, even if they’re not a fan of this genre of music.
3. Pick a song that makes you emotional
Bjork - All is full of love
Bjork is one of those artists that I’ve always admired from my teenage years. This song, (and video) still remains one of the most stunning things I’ve ever seen and heard. Her voice is so beautiful and full of vulnerability, it makes me emotional all these years later listening to it.
4. Pick a song you would love to belly dance on
Igorrr - Downgrade Desert
I couldn’t do a playlist without having a song I would belly dance to (or at least try!). Igorrr is French musician who is really just unique/ bizarre in every way. As soon as I heard this song, I thought I’d never heard anything like this before, and I absolutely love it. The way it progresses from beginning to end is something that would be incredible to tell a story with through dance….. watch this space I may give it a try!
5. Pick your favourite song from a band you saw live:
Zeal and Ardor - Firewake
It would be wrong not to have this band on the list, since it was this gig that I first met Thomas at all those years ago. Zeal and Ardor began as a one-man band with frontman Manuel Gagneux, which is now a full touring band. His project combines different genres of music with Black metal. Seeing them perform live is an absolutely amazing experience and is one of those bands that will continue to grow.
🎧 5 great songs from Turkey & Syria
Gaye Su Akyol - İstikrarlı Hayal Hakikattir
Baba Zula - İtaat Etme
Omar Souleyman - Ya Boul Habari
Lena Chamamyan - Lama Bada yatathana
Moğollar - Eastern Love
Until the next time, Godspeed!
Thomas
