5 amazing tracks closing an album with a bang

Week 51.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays everyone, to you. I hope you are all gathering with your loved ones with no hiccups (whether it's train strikes, viruses, or winter storms).
Also, thank you so much for your time reading these emails and listening to the songs all year long. It's been a fun exercise (albeit slightly time-consuming) and I learned a lot along the way. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
I'm planning to continue this newsletter in 2023 and I’m really looking forward to it. 🙂
For the last 2 weeks of the year, I have wanted to make another selection: I'm digging some of my favourite albums' closing tracks.
Massive Attack - Hymn of the Big Wheel
The Bristol trip-hop legends for the last track of their first album, with Horace Andy on the vocals (as usual). This a good reminder of how much pioneers Massive Attack were in the 90s.
Their sound is still very fresh and seminal.
My Dying Bride - Black God
Another closing track of an album I used to listen to a lot as a teenager. My Dying Bride was one of my gateway bands to metal, and especially this album, Turn Loose The Swans, a typical 90s doom metal album: heavy, loud and slow. This song closes the album on a sort of climax, a peaceful ending with violins and beautiful female vocals.
Deftones - Ohms
Back in the year 2020, with the last song of the latest Deftones album to date. Typical Deftones track with multiple atmospheric layers of sound and soaring choruses.
Orelsan - Notes Pour Trop Tard
I realised I curated very little French music (let alone hip-hop).
So, here is Orelsan, one of the prominent French rappers of the last 10 years. He's the opposite of what you would expect from a rapper (a white guy from the working class in a small town in Normandy) and got famous for his lyrics (in French) full of self-mockery.
This is the ending track (literally notes for too late)of his 2017 album, 'La Fete est Finie" (lyrics in French and English translations if you are interested). I discovered him quite late and found the lyrics of this one fascinating, a burning list of pieces of advice from the older brother of a whole generation.
Sigur Ros - Untitled 8 (popplagið - the pop song)
The Icelandic rock stars are to finish this week's playlist with the epic ending of their seminal album ().
