This Week's Playlist #127 - The European edition
My brother picks up 5 songs of his current favorite songs
Hello everyone!
This Week's Playlist - Season 3, Episode 23.
European countries are voting to renew the European Parliament (I am writing this newsletter with French news in the background in the midst of political turmoil in our country).
I thought I would take the opportunity to dig into the music scene of countries I have less knowledge of the musical scene.
So, for this week, 5 songs from less-known European countries.
I hope you enjoy it and see you next week.
There is a YouTube link for each of the songs on the cover, and here are the playlists for each streaming platform:
1. Me & That Man - My Church Is Black
POLAND—A dark folk, country, and Gothic blues project that started as an offshoot for Nergal, best known as the frontman of Polish black metal group Behemoth but also on the jury of the Polish version of "The Voice".
2. Gramatik - Just Jammin’
SLOVENIA—Gramatik is the stage name for Denis Jašarević, a Slovenian electronic music producer, DJ and composer. His music blends various styles, including dubstep, electro, trip-hop, hip-hop, and glitch beat-making.
3. Ugniavijas - Per Tiltą Jojau
LITHUANIA—Ugniavijas is a small all-male folk band in Lithuania. Members of the band bring a unique tradition of ancient Lithuanian war songs. They have strong voices, a sincere attitude, careful reconstruction, and a modern approach to ancient heritage songs.
I had to dig for this one and really got mesmerized by these all-male a-capella vocal songs.
4. Besh O Drom - Makedon
HUNGARY— Besh o Drom is a Hungarian band known for its eclectic fusion of traditional Eastern European, Balkan, and Gypsy music with contemporary jazz, rock, and electronic genres. Their energetic performances include brass, strings, and percussion.
5. Tiamat - Brighter Than The Sun
SWEDEN—Tiamat is one of the outliers of the Swedish death metal scene. It then moved to a more gothic/new wave rock style with the recognizable baritone voice of Johan Edlund (who lived for 13 years in Greece, so the entry can count for 2 countries).
Until the next time, Godspeed!
Thomas
