This Week's Playlist #120 - The Office playlist edition
I'm picking up 5 songs to play in your office for focus work.
Hello everyone!
This Week's Playlist - Season 3, Episode 16.
I took a permanent job last October. For the first time since the Covid pandemic, I'm back in an office (almost) full-time.
I won't give you boring details about my job (it involves building software as much as breaking it). Still, the team is friendly, and a lovely office studio is in South London. So far, so good.
But more interesting, we have some excellent speakers in the office, so a lot of music is played. I took over a couple of afternoons with my weird music tastes to counterbalance the very indie-funky playlist from my colleagues.
To avoid being told off by our office neighbours, I had to get out of my metalhead hat and pick up more chilled tracks.
So this week, find some of my finest (or weirdest) tracks for an office playlist.
See you next week.
There is a YouTube link for each of the songs on the cover, and here are the playlists for each streaming platform:
1. Hania Rani - Hello
A song from the latest album of the Polish piano player and composer, with her very recognizable emotive and cinematic compositions mixing classical, electronic, and folk elements.
If you enjoy, her live session in the woods is mesmerizing.
2. Xploding Plastix - Sports, Not Heavy Crime
More electronica with the opening track of this niche Norwegian electronic music duo from the early 2000s.
Digging this week's playlist made me realize they released a new album last year I completely missed.
3. Olafur Arnalds - We Contain Multitudes
More electronic music with the Icelandic maestro and one of our favourite tracks in the office.
If you enjoy, you can watch his set in the middle of the Icelandic mountains.
4. Mogwai - Remurdered
This Mogwai album is turning 10 years old this year.
Somehow, it is more chilled than their earlier, more heavy stuff, with lighter melodies, a more elaborate sound, and even a fairly sprinkle of electronica.
5. Hidden Orchestra - Little Buddy Move
Another perfect track to focus on is this one-man band piece with a fascinating mix of styles: somewhere between post-rave/techno instrumental music and modern jazz.
Until the next time, Godspeed!
Thomas
