Week #35 - The Taylor Hawkins edition
TL;DR: I'm running a weekly newsletter with 5 songs and a short description, and a matching Spotify playlist if you want to subscribe.
For the non-Spotify readers, there is a Youtube link for each of the songs on the cover.
Hello!
Week 35. Late Sunday night.
I went to the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert in Wembley stadium in London yesterday. I know I never really been listening to Foo Fighters (I actually wrote about it a couple of months ago when Taylor died) but the occasion was too big. Some friends from Paris were coming for the gig so I tagged along with them, without knowing exactly what to expect.
It was one of the most moving nights (days, should I say, the gig was actually 6h long) as much for the lineup as for the emotional roller coaster we went through.
I've been to regularly to music concerts since 18 and that lineup was for me a once-in-a-lifetime night, with a lineup of musicians I've been listening ot since I'm a teenager (Brian May, Paul McCartney, Lars Ulrich, Brian Johnson, Josh Homme, just to name a few). And even though I'm not a big Foo Fighter fan, it really felt like being part of a big family and we all ended up in tears.
It's hard to put feelings into words, so I'll stick to 5 amazing songs played last night, and for those interested, here is the whole setlist of the 6 hours, with all the musicians who played.
See you next weep everyone!
Them Crooked Vultures - Gunman
Some hard rock to start with. Dave Grohl on the drums, with John Paul Jones (from Led Zepplin) on the bass and Josh Homme on the guitar and singing
Supergrass - Allright
`The Brit pop sensation :-)
AC/DC - Let There Be Rock
It was honestly quite amazing to see Brian Johnson playing AC/DC classics with Lars Ulrich and the Foo Fighters as a backing band, with a massive alternative sound.
Jeff Buckley - Grace
Another moving moment was Dave Grohl's daughter covering some of Jeff Buckley's classics.
So much musically ahead of his time, gone too soon. It took me some years to really appreciate his music as well.
The Beatles - Helter Skelter
We got Sir Paul McCartney as a special guest
Until the next time, Godspeed!
Thomas
