This Week's Playlist #31 - The City edition (& a heavy metal bonus)
Week #31 - The City edition
TL;DR: I'm running a weekly newsletter with 5 songs and a short description, and a matching Spotify playlist if you want to subscribe.
For the non-Spotify readers, there is a Youtube link for each of the songs on the cover.
Week 31!
5 bands with cities in their name for a more summery and chilled playlist this week :)
And 3 songs from of my current heavy metal rotation as well.
The Dresden Dolls - Missed Me
The Dresden Dolls are a drums / piano punk duet from Boston Massachusetts, describing their style as "Brechtian punk cabaret"
Full album: Dresden Dolls (2004)
Algiers - Dispossession
Another really interesting underdog band from Atlanta. Algiers blends gospel, industrial dancing beats, noise rock and post-punk in a style I've never heard before.
Full album: There Is No Year (2020)
Calexico - Crystal Frontier
A country / folk classic here. The song is about people whose lives traverse between Mexico and the United States, a theme that has always interested the band (they are from Arizona).
Full Album: Even My Sure Things Fall Through (1998)
Buenavista Social Club - Candela
Another classic here.
Babylon Zoo - Space Man
Some good old 90s electronic rock music to finish this week :-)
Heavy metal bonus
Imperial Triumphant - Merkurius Gilded
Fascinating jazz-blasted landscape of noise
Panzerfaust - The Far Band at the River Styx
Black metal
Altas - Ascetic Reflection
DIssonant Death metal
Until the next time, Godspeed!
