This Week's Playlist #28 - The Bastille Day edition (+ another a heavy metal bonus)
Week #28 - The Bastille Day edition + a heavy metal treat
TL;DR: I'm running a weekly newsletter with 5 songs and a short description, and a matching Spotify playlist if you want to subscribe.
For the non-Spotify readers, there is a Youtube link for each of the songs on the cover.
Week 28!
Happy Sunday everyone!
I hope the European readers of this newsletter are coping with the heatwave :-)
A focus on French music this week, in celebration of Bastille Day, last Wednesday. You’re probably aware of most of the mainstream bands from France, so I’ll try to dig a little deeper in my digital record shelf :-)
It has been a really tough choice, so I may have to send you another round eventually.
And, because it’s been a while, 5 french heavy metal bands as well :-)

Mansfield.TYA is Julia and Carla from Nantes. They play a very intimate and melancholic electronic pop music somewhere between Cat Power, Cocorosie PJ Harvey and Erik Truffaz.

We Insist - While The West Is Falling
One of my favourite bands from the parisian scene. Prog / jazz rock with a bit of influence from Queens of the stone age, Primus, At-The-Drive-In, John Zorn.

Forever Pavot - Les cigognes nénuphars:
Forever Pavot is another one man band, Emile Sornin, playing very Ennio Morricone-esque voodoo-psychedelic-soundtrack music.

Nosfell - Günel
Nosfell is Labyala Nosfell on guitars and vocals and Pierre Le Bourgeois on cello, telling the stories of Labyala imaginary world, Klokochazia, in a made-up idiom, Klokobetz. A more psychedelic and folk version of Sonic Youth.

Sebastian - Tetra
One of the dancefloor hits my last years in Paris (2011/2), from Sebastian first album, from the Ed Banger family.
Bonus: 5 of my favorite French metal bands

Gorod - Disavow Your God
Progressive Death Metal

Regarde Les Hommes Tomber - A New Order
Sludge Black Metal

Psykup - We Will Win This War
Progressive fusion extreme metal

Mars Red Sky - Collector
Psychedelic stoner metal

Alcest - Les Jardins de Minuit
Shoegaze Black Metal
Until the next time, Godspeed!
