This Week's Playlist #12 - The Fat Of The Land edition
Week #12 - The Fat of the Land edition
TL;DR: I'm running a weekly newsletter with 5 songs and a short description of it, and a matching Spotify playlist if you want to subscribe.
For the non-Spotify readers, there is a Youtube link for each of the songs on the cover.
Hello everyone :-)
Week 12!
Once again, thanks for your patience with another (very) late email. I've started a new full-time job and need to find a new rythm with this newsletter (I got used to spending a couple of hours every Friday drafting these messages, not anymore :-))
A homage to one of my favourite bands this week. The Prodigy announced a UK tour, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of their iconic album The Fat Of The Land.
The Fat Of The Land has been an instrumental album in my musical journey.
I remember listening to Firestarter and Breathe for the first time on the radio when I was 14. I remember staying up late to watch their controversial videos, which were only allowed to be broadcasted in the middle of the night.
More broadly, this album opened my eyes to the whole electronic music scene (I mainly listened to alternative rock back then). I saw them multiple times (the last time was in 2017), and still, I haven't seen a live band as intense as they are.
Obviously, seeing them live without Keith Flint, who took his life in 2019, will be very moving, but I look forward to these gigs next July.
And one of the most interesting ways to pay them homage is to dig in the sampled songs on this album. The list is as long as my arm. So here are my 5 favourite songs sampled on the Fat of the land.
Sampled on "Funky Shit"
Sampled on "Smack My Bitch Up"
Sampled on "Mindfields"
Sampled on "Fuel My Fire"
Rage Against The Machine - Bulls On Parade
Sampled on "Smack My Bitch Up"
Until the next time, Godspeed!
Thomas
