This Week's Playlist #11 - The Modern Soul voices edition (+ a heavy metal bonus)
Week #11 - The Modern Soul Voices
TL;DR: I'm running a weekly newsletter with 5 songs and a short description of it, and a matching Spotify playlist if you want to subscribe.
For the non-Spotify readers, there is a Youtube link for each of the songs on the cover.
Hello everyone!
Week 11, with a late-night email this week. Thanks for your patience.
Before we start, just a quick follow up on last week’s newsletter. For those who listen to the songs on Spotify, the playlist is missing Mastodon cover by Feist (for some reason, it’s not available on the platform, I know, I know). So if you missed it, I urge you to listen to this Feistodon cover on Youtube. It’s just magical.
Also, I might add the playlist to other platforms (Deezer and Apple Music) if some of you are interested. Let me know.
Back to this week’s playlist: I wanted to come back to one of the core reasons I started this newsletter and move out of my musical alternative rock comfort zone. Earlier this week, I had a conversation with an old friend from France, and he sent me a video of Nilufer Yanya, a soul singer I had never heard of and with the same occasion, introduced me to a new style I had barely no idea of, modern soul :-)
So I’ve dug a bit more, watched many videos, read some articles and came up with 5 songs of modern soul voices.
And for the metalheads of the audience who might get bored, I’ve added 5 metal songs of my current rotation (skip to the end of the messsage).
Full Album: Painless (2022)
Black Pumas - Colors
Full Album: Black Pumas (2019)
Heavy Metal special issue :-)
Celeste - De Tes Yeux Bleus Perlés
Blaze Bailey - The Man Who Would Not Die
Misery Index - The Eaters And The Eaten
Until the next time, Godspeed!
Thomas
