This Week's Playlist #5 - The Tube Edition
Week #6 - The tube edition
TL;DR: I'm starting a weekly newsletter with 5 songs and a short description of it, and a matching Spotify playlist if you want to subscribe.
Hello Everyone!
Week 6. A weird week. Very hectic (as usual), and I'm still figuring out a good rhythm for this weekly playlist. To be honest, I had no clue what to include in this week's newsletter. Until yesterday.
I went to have dinner with a friend who moved to the other side of London. So I took the tube. If you've been in London, you know that there is no (or almost no) mobile network coverage. So, to address the issue, I've copied a playlist to my phone, purposely called "In the tube" :-). Typically to play when I was commuting to work or coming back home late at night.
I commute much less these post-pandemic days, so I listen much less frequently to this playlist. Yesterday back from my dinner was the first occasion in months. So I thought I could pick up 5 songs from it :-) Don't expect any obscure musician or niche band this time. These are just some kinda classics that keep me going in the grinding Londoner commute hustle :-) More inspiring tunes next week
Birdy Nam Nam - Worried: A crew of former Parisian turntablism wizards moved to electronic music. This one is from their 2009 album "Manual For Successful Rioting",
Queens of the Stone Age - Born to Hula (non LP version): One of their first tracks, which was re-released as a bonus track of the Rated R album. Typical QOTSA bass groove and heavy melodies.
System of a Down - Peephole: One of the Armenian / Californian hard-rockers (is that a word?) burning tracks. I still deeply love their first album, even though much rawer than the rest of their discography. And I still remember the surreal appearance they had on French prime time TV when I was a teenager.
PJ Harvey - Victory: Another relatively unknown track from an early an underrated (for me) album of PJ Harvey
Sara Mitra - The Secret Sorrow of a Travelling Man: A track from an unknown jazz writer I randomly caught on stage in one of East London jazz clubs in a previous life. Very soft tone voice and catchy melodies. Perfect chilled some after the raving 90s rock vibe of this week.
That's all for now. Thanks for reading until here. Hit reply and let me know what you think of these songs
Until the next time, Godspeed!
